IMBOLC / CANDLEMAS

(February 2nd)

Imbloc means "Ewe's Milk", this is the spring festival celebrating the re-emergence of Bride as a young virgin from the mountain fastness of her mother Calleach (pronounced the same as her Eastern sister Kali). She who is of winter, the burial mounds and high places, drinks from the well of youth and transformed into Bride/Brigid, who is her other self.

On Imbolc, Brid is honored as her maiden aspect, but she is a pregnant maiden, pregnant with the young seed of the Sun. As such, Brid is Goddess of Fire and Fertility. At Imbolc, which is also called the Festival of Lights, Brid wears a radiant crown of candles. she is wondrous Healer, Protector, and Patron of Creative Inspiration. Until her light is fully born again at Beltane, Brid ensures that the seed is nurtured inside her womb and that the home fires continue to burn through the final days and nights of Winter.

Imbolc is a time to give and share with others, as Brid gives and shares her enchanted and empowering light.
